After the extremely ice and snow of the
previous week, the weather had taken a turn for the
better and by the time of the Wassail was near perfect.
As always the event commenced with the lighting of the
Bonfire and the serving of apple cake & drinks (mulled
cider, apple juice, cider) and by the time we were ready
for the Wassail Ceremony a large crowd had gathered. The
official business was performed by Wassail King Joshua
aided by the Lord of Misrule and everyone made their
contibution by banging sticks and singing the wassail
song (words here) The celebration was completed by a performance by the Bishopswood Mummers and Border Morris Dancers. Do you have any photos of the event? Out webmaster is very keen to receive them for the website. Just email them. |
